When Yellowstone was discovered the descriptions carried back to civilization were hard to believe and largely dismissed as heresy and the works of over-imagination.
But as the country was explored and the descriptions were verified the place was deemed important and worthy of keeping preserved for future generations.
This book was published to provide the reader a descriptive interpretation of how the early “park protectors” saw the park and how the conservation ethic has been passed down through multiple generations of park managers and citizens.
Imagine standing on the banks of the beautiful Madison River and reading how President Teddy Roosevelt felt about the scene. Or how the first Park Superintendant saw the same scene. That is what this book is all about.
The book is filled with over a hundred authentic quotations from historic citizens.

Sublette County, Wyoming has often been called “God’s Country”. It is a place blessed with incredible natural beauty—high deserts, lofty mountain ranges, glacial lakes, scenic rivers, abundant wildlife and blue skies are the cornerstone of this place.
All photos displayed in the book were taken in Sublette County.
The book is a collection of images displaying the out and out beauty of the place. And, the place we are fortunate to call home!

The 7 Mile River Ranch is a 3,000 acre parcel in large part conserved forever through Conservation Easements and Covenants. As a former working cattle ranch and sitting on over 7 miles of the beautiful Green River, it has turned into a wildlife oasis and scenic setting far beyond imagination.
All photos in this book were taken on the ranch.
The highlight of the book is an authentic re-enactment of a Mountain Man encampment on the ranch. The historic “Rendezvous” celebrations and gathering in the 1830’s occurred on the ranch property. During the year a number of members of the American Mountain Men organization camped on the ranch and held an authentic camp. The camp provided incredible photographs of the characters and their activities.

The COVID pandemic which occurred in 2020 was a once in a lifetime event—something we will all remember and talk about with our children and grandchildren.
I wrote this book to highlight what life was like during that miserable year in rural western Wyoming. The book provides a month by month discussion of our life during the year.
Our lives were not affected like others in other parts of the country. Other than the continued drumbeat of the media always preaching doom, we lived life normally. Yes, we had distancing and masks, but in our part of the country with hundreds of square miles and only a few thousand people we carried on, pretty much like normal.
I shot over 100,000 pictures during the year—it was a prolific year for my photography!
